Update #2: 1:15 p.m.
YLMS Community,
This message is a follow-up to my email earlier this morning. As you are aware, Yorba Linda Middle School and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District administrators were made aware of a rumor regarding our campus. It was reported that a student made an inappropriate statement directed toward the safety of our campus.
In following established safety protocols, and out of an abundance of caution, our team immediately involved the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) to assist with the investigation. Orange County’s School Mobile Assessment and Resource Team (SMART) also responded. Following their investigation, the two agencies have determined that there is no threat to our campus. Our campus continues to be safe and secure.
We sincerely regret, but also understand, that this incident may leave you and your student with a sense of worry. Please know, if school/district administrators or law enforcement ever believed there was a credible threat to our campus, we would share that concern with our community immediately. We would also take action, using the drills that we have practiced, on our campus to protect students and staff.
In closing, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we worked to communicate accurate and factual information in a timely manner. We are grateful to our entire YLMS community for their vigilance in reporting concerns to our staff through our text-a-tip line at (657) 243-1007 or other forms of communication. This situation has provided us with an important reminder: If you see something, say something. We must all continue to do our part in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students.
Sincerely,
Greg Kemp
